Padre Camillo Astalli
By now, everybody acknowledges the connection between climate change and forced migration: the need to migrate is caused by conditions that have made a territory unlivable. Optimistic calculations tell us that in 2050 almost 250 million people will have to move away from their homeland for environmental reasons. 50 million of which in Africa alone. Even if not everyone acknowledges it, people who have to emigrate for environmental reasons are forced migrants. We talk about over 32 million people, a number that is expected to grow. We cannot ignore the reality of this data. Hiding behind definitions means being irresponsible and wasting time.
